My GMTK 2019 Submission: Lights Out


I've spent the last 48 hours working to make a great submission for the GMTK 2019 Jam. I'm super happy with how it turned out.

The game is a platformer where only one light can be lit at any given time. This phenomenon forces you to navigate in the dark through the caves where the game takes place.

In addition to this sort of swapping lights mechanic, where you activate a light and the previously activated light goes out, there are lights that activate moving walls to create some puzzle sections in the game. 

I tried to make fun and interesting levels for this game, rather than create a large quantity of levels. For this reason there are 7 levels in the game, some short and some a bit longer. I think each of them serves a purpose, though.


If I had more time, there were a number of mechanics I would've liked to add for the jam release.

For example, a type of light that temporarily lights up certain areas sequentially. This would give you a quick peek at the platforms ahead but then quickly hide them in the darkness.

Another mechanic I wanted to add was some sort of slingshot that would allow you to activate lights from a range. A mechanic like this could open up new avenues for interesting puzzles when combined with lights that open doors.
